Dining Out

Last night was Cory's squadron's dining out. A 'dining out' is basically just a formal dinner where all of the officers in the squadron gather with their guests (girlfriends/boyfriends, husbands/wives). It is full of tradition and there are lots of rules that the officers, as well as their guests, are to follow throughout the night. In the end, it is really just a time to get together, have fun and to be reminded of what it means to be in the military.

This is me and Sheralyn (the CO's wife).

The Boys

I love taking pictures of these two...I think they are the handsomest boys in the world...

And then there's this...ravioli night...

Fun in the Sun

We've had some really goregous days out here lately. The boys have been having fun playing the backyard with Addison. I bought them a slip and slide and they had so much fun with it today...they didn't actually get the whole "slip and slide" thing, but the loved all the water!

Sam has so much fun with Addison. I thought this picture was pretty funny...who's in charge here?

Our Trip to San Diego...

The boys and I ventured down to San Diego last Sunday to wait on Cory's carrier to pull in. We spent all day Monday at the beach. Sam had a blast running around and playing at the playground in back of our hotel. Micah was happy eating sand all day...I definitely had my hands full...

Cory's ship finally pulled in Monday night...

On Tuesday we went to the zoo for the day. Sam loved seeing all of the "animals". He was especially excited about the "cookies" (monkeys), and the "e-a-ants" (elephants).

After the zoo we walked around Balboa Park and had a picnic. It was really nice to see my old museum and to revisit where Cory and I spent so much time when we lived there.

Later that night we went to dinner at a Mexican restaurant on Coronado that we used to go to all the time. After dinner we started walking back to our car and in the distance noticed a woman leaning against it. We were so content on trying to figure out who she was and why she was leaning on our car that we almost missed the police man crouching the the stairway holding his M-16 as we walked by. We then realized the woman behind our car was a police officer as well and she too was holding a gun. We detoured down a side street and then Cory back-tracked to see if he could find out what was going on. As it turned out, we had parked across the street from a bank. The alarm had gone off in the bank and they thought someone was inside. So, we waited a while... I finally saw the woman move and we thought it would be safe to go back to our car. We hopped in and turned around make our way back down the street...as soon as we did that the man with the M-16 emerged from the stairway and ran right in front of our car with the weapon pointed at the door of the bank... Needless to say, we got out of there as quickly as possible. I really didn't expect that much excitement, especially in Coronado!

Wednesday we drove to Julian for the day. The drive up there was actually kind of sad. The wildfires had passed through there, so all of the trees in the surrounding area were completely dead and black. It made for some neat pictures, but it sure didn't look like the mountain road we used to drive.

Thursday we went to Sea World. We decided to stop and grab Subway before going to the park, so Cory went in and I sat in the car with the kids. While we were sitting there a woman tried to pull into the spot next to us. She missed and hit our car. For a while she just sat there and looked at me. I finally got out to inspect it and she got out of her car and said, "oh, did I touch you?". Wow. There was really no damage, so we left it and headed to the park. We had a great time there. Sam was fascinated with the dolphins and the "sharks" (which were actually the killer whales). When we exited the park and headed back to our car I noticed a note on our windshield. It was from a man who apparently had hit our car. Twice in one day...what are the odds of that???? We checked it out and there was only a little scratch, so we decided it was no big deal, but honestly how much excited can one family take???

We said goodbye to Cory later that night and headed back to Point Mugu. We have about one week left until he gets to be home for a little while. We really did have a great time seeing him.

Young Love...

Let me introduce you to Addison. She is Sam's new little girlfriend. We go for walks with her, her mom and her sister, Casey, every morning. On our walks they share toys and snacks and occassionally hold hands. They are really cute together. She is Sam's new favorite friend.

My friend, Allie, just shared this picture with me. It is Cory and Micah last summer taken at the squadron's open house. I love it!

Time goes by so fast!

Some Things Never Change...

Sam keeps getting bigger, but he's still our baby. The first picture is of him right around Micah's age (10 months or so). The second is last night when he attempted to stay up and watch the "singing" on American Idol. He only lasted about a half and hour into it.

My very first blog...

This is so all new to me...so please be patient with me. I'm starting this as a way for you all to have a better idea of what we're up to out here in California. Micah and Sam are growing up so fast that I've realized I need to be better about sharing the process with you all.

Micah has started walking. He look like a little Frankenstein walking around with his arms out in front of him, but slowly he is getting better and better at it. He is a tough little boy who wants so badly to be chasing Sam around...and he's getting there.

Sam is learning more and more everyday. He's talking much more and I'm actually able to understand about 80% of what comes out of his mouth. He loves music...anything to do with singing and dancing.

Both of our boys are incredible. They are loving and fun, and even when they get on our nerves they are still so cute.

Cory has been away on a training mission for a couple of weeks now. We will get to meet him in San Diego next week for a few days...we are all looking forward to that.
