Cory's ship finally pulled in Monday night...
On Tuesday we went to the zoo for the day. Sam loved seeing all of the "animals". He was especially excited about the "cookies" (monkeys), and the "e-a-ants" (elephants).

After the zoo we walked around Balboa Park and had a picnic. It was really nice to see my old museum and to revisit where Cory and I spent so much time when we lived there.

Later that night we went to dinner at a Mexican restaurant on Coronado that we used to go to all the time. After dinner we started walking back to our car and in the distance noticed a woman leaning against it. We were so content on trying to figure out who she was and why she was leaning on our car that we almost missed the police man crouching the the stairway holding his M-16 as we walked by. We then realized the woman behind our car was a police officer as well and she too was holding a gun. We detoured down a side street and then Cory back-tracked to see if he could find out what was going on. As it turned out, we had parked across the street from a bank. The alarm had gone off in the bank and they thought someone was inside. So, we waited a while... I finally saw the woman move and we thought it would be safe to go back to our car. We hopped in and turned around make our way back down the street...as soon as we did that the man with the M-16 emerged from the stairway and ran right in front of our car with the weapon pointed at the door of the bank... Needless to say, we got out of there as quickly as possible. I really didn't expect that much excitement, especially in Coronado!
Wednesday we drove to Julian for the day. The drive up there was actually kind of sad. The wildfires had passed through there, so all of the trees in the surrounding area were completely dead and black. It made for some neat pictures, but it sure didn't look like the mountain road we used to drive.
Thursday we went to Sea World. We decided to stop and grab Subway before going to the park, so Cory went in and I sat in the car with the kids. While we were sitting there a woman tried to pull into the spot next to us. She missed and hit our car. For a while she just sat there and looked at me. I finally got out to inspect it and she got out of her car and said, "oh, did I touch you?". Wow. There was really no damage, so we left it and headed to the park. We had a great time there. Sam was fascinated with the dolphins and the "sharks" (which were actually the killer whales). When we exited the park and headed back to our car I noticed a note on our windshield. It was from a man who apparently had hit our car. Twice in one day...what are the odds of that???? We checked it out and there was only a little scratch, so we decided it was no big deal, but honestly how much excited can one family take???
We said goodbye to Cory later that night and headed back to Point Mugu. We have about one week left until he gets to be home for a little while. We really did have a great time seeing him.
